Hole in the Wall Computers

Sugatra Mitra is Professor of Education at Newcastle University. His research has produced some amazing results.

It all began when he put a computer in a “hole-in-the-wall’ very much like an ATM machine. The difference was that it didn’t dispense money because it was just a Windows computer complete with mouse and keyboard.

It was connected to the Internet though and he left it, about child height, in a slum in Delhi. Then he went away and wondered what would happen.

The results are as amazing and they are exciting. Can we any longer be really sure that classroom style teaching is the best way to educate modern children?

This TED Talk is 17 minutes long and you will enjoy it.
